COURSE OVERVIEW

The Associate Degree of Indigenous Languages and Linguistics is designed to provide you with a coherent theoretical and practical knowledge and skills to engage in culturally informed and accountable ways of language work.

Study focuses on the linguistic skills and knowledge needed for appropriate and culturally sensitive language documentation, maintenance and language recovery and revitalisation. You will also develop basic skills in speaking an Indigenous language (Yolngu or Arrernte), and gain an understanding of how language (and language learning) is embedded within cultural and social understandings and practice.

The course prepares you for professional practice and further study in the fields of language and linguistics, and in Indigenous language planning and policy at local and national levels.
