Course overview

The Certificate III in Spoken and Written English assists learners from non-English speaking backgrounds to develop intermediate language, literacy and numeracy skills to undertake further education and training, seek and maintain employment and participate in a range of community contexts.

Educational outcomes include:

  • developing learning strategies to study in formal learning environments
  • comprehending and participating in a variety of spoken exchanges including oral presentations, casual conversations, complex negotiations, transactions, interviews and discussions
  • developing reading and writing skills in preparation for work, further studies and personal purposes that include: narrative texts, information texts, expositions, news articles, advertisements and resumes
  • Developing pronunciation skills to improve spoken communication
  • becoming familiar with the English of mathematics
